HTML to Markdown converter
Convert HTML to Markdown online. Paste HTML code, or paste text copied from a webpage, Word or Google Docs, and get clean Markdown with headings, lists, links, tables and code. Free, no sign-up, nothing uploaded.
Select text on any page, in Google Docs, Word or Confluence, copy it, and paste it here. The formatting comes with it.
How to use it
- Copy something. Select text on a webpage, in Google Docs, Word, Notion or Confluence and copy it. Or copy raw HTML code.
- Paste it here. Formatted text goes in the Copied text box; code goes in the HTML code box.
- Take the Markdown. Copy it into ChatGPT, Claude or your notes, or download a .md file.
What comes through
Headings, paragraphs, bold and italic, bullet and numbered lists, links, tables, code blocks with their language, quotes, and images as links to the picture. Scripts, styles, menus and tracking code are removed. The rules are the same ones the Pick Markdown extension uses, so the output matches what you would copy from a page.
Common questions
How do I convert HTML to Markdown?
Paste HTML code into the HTML box, or copy formatted text from any page and paste it into the "Copied text" box. The Markdown appears on the right. Copy it or download a .md file.
Does it keep tables, code and links?
Yes. Tables become pipe tables, code blocks keep their language, links keep their address and images become links to the picture. Tables with merged cells are written out as plain rows so nothing is lost.
Can I paste from Word or Google Docs to get Markdown?
Yes. Copy the text in Word, Google Docs, Notion or Confluence and paste it into the "Copied text" box. Headings, bold, lists, links and tables come through as Markdown.
Does it convert HTML tables to Markdown?
Yes. An HTML table becomes a Markdown pipe table with a header row. Tables with merged cells are written out as plain rows so nothing is lost.
Is my content uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in this page in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, and nothing is stored.
Can I convert a whole webpage from its address?
Not on this page. The Pick Markdown extension does that on the page you are reading, with checkboxes for each section. A link-based converter is coming to this site.
Why Markdown instead of a screenshot or plain text?
Markdown keeps the structure (headings, lists, tables) in plain text, so AI tools read it accurately and it costs far fewer tokens than a picture of the page.
