Install on a desktop browser

Pick Markdown is a browser extension for desktop computers. It is not in any store yet. Chrome comes first; Firefox and Safari are planned.

You seem to be on a phone or tablet. Extensions do not run in mobile browsers, and there is no app. You can read the site and try the demo here, then install from a desktop computer later.

Your first page

After installing, pin the extension so the icon stays visible, open any article and follow these steps.

  1. Click the Pick Markdown icon. The popup shows the page title and two options; leave Loaded content and Main content ticked for a normal article.
  2. Choose Capture loaded content. A review tab opens behind the popup; you can close the popup.
  3. In the review tab, tick the sections you want, in the outline or next to their headings. Nothing ticked means the whole page goes.
  4. Press Copy selected as Markdown or Download .md. Paste it into ChatGPT, Claude, your notes or your editor.
  5. Optional: Save capture keeps it in this browser for later.

Help

The icon says this page can’t be captured
Browser settings pages, the built-in PDF viewer, the new-tab page and other extensions’ pages are off limits to all extensions. Open a normal web page. For a PDF, download it and use Choose a local copy from a reference row.
The popup says it couldn’t reach the page
Usually the page was open before the extension was installed or updated, or it is still loading. Reload the page and try again.
My capture is only part of the page
The page kept loading as you scrolled, hid text behind tabs, or stopped responding. The review page says where it stopped. Go back to the page and choose Collect more; your ticks and edits are kept.
Some words aren’t there
They may be inside a picture. Use Extract text from image on the picture’s row; the text is read on your device and added as a separate, labelled source. Check names and numbers against the picture.
Copy didn’t work
Your browser blocked the clipboard. The Export panel shows the text so you can select and copy it yourself, or download the .md file instead.
Where are my saved captures?
In this browser, under Saved captures in the popup and on the review page. They are not synced; removing the extension removes them.
